Are you certain of how your garden will grow? Have you ever wondered what is in your soil? If not then be advised that crops only take up nutrients they need and everything else remains in the soil. So what then does it mean for your soil to be acidic or alkaline and what does it mean to apply white lime or sulfate and what is stunted growth anyway? Sounds confusing? Most vegetables prefer a pH between 6.0 and 7.0 with exception of tomato and carrot that accommodate 5.5 acidity. A 7.0 for all plants flowers and vegetables will provide the most appropriate growing condition. An acidic soil or alkaline soil can be corrected by adding lime or a fertilizer rich in sulfate compound. Soil should be tested after each crop cycle. For better results it is recommended that soil be removed from different locations in the field and mixed together and a sample be taken from that mixture to carry out the test.
